Jan 14

I'm reading Peter Jenkins' book called, "A Walk Across America" that documents his travels and the people he met on his walk from New York to New Orleans. The journey took about 2 years to complete. I was reading his book on Jan 14 @ 4:30 p.m. In his book, he talks about the tumultuous times of the late 60's and early 70's. The climate of the time was fearful towards everything from the bomb to the price of coffee. To illustrate my experience with fear at that time, I remember my dad was sick with colon cancer, and on the way to a treatment he saw a gas price sign that said 50 cents a gallon, at one of the full-service stations. He said when gas got to be 50 cents a gallon at self-serve, it would kill him.

He was right, he died right about the time gas hit 50 cents a gallon.
