On April 23 at 4:30 p.m., I was driving back from my walk around Sloan's Lake, a three mile walk that I've made for many years. Part of the interview for the meter reading job at Public Service Co of Colorado (now Xcel) in 1989 was having to walk around Sloan's Lake 3.75 times inside of four hours. If you couldn't make the walk, you couldn't be a meter reader. An average day consisted of walking 8-12 miles in all kinds of weather from -25 to 105 degrees, wind, rain and snow. I miss that job.
